So this is my last week in NYC. Monday after class the girls in my program and I went to a coffee shop and just hung out for a while. I had a "fresh squeezed lemonade" and was so confused when they brought me out a bowl of sugar. After taking a sip, I quickly realized why.... it was completely unsweetened...nothing but pure lemon juice! It ended up being an enjoyable afternoon catching up with everyone and just relaxing.
Last night I went out for a couple drinks with some people from my office. This turned interesting. As we were sitting there, I happened to look over Darcy's head and saw a giant cockroach climbing up the wall. Now for anyone who knows me, this should result in instant tears and panic. However, I contained myself. I looked toward the ceiling, closed my eyes, and took a deep breath. Then I calmly informed Darcy what was next to her head. The waiter came over and got the giant disgusting creature and saved us. Needless to say, I definitely had the heebie-jeebies and wasn't entirely sure that I wanted to stay for food/drinks any more. I did stay and had a great time and just tried not to think about it. I mean honestly, how many other NYC restaurants have roaches, rats, etc.? Probably most of them. It's best not to think about it. Kind of how I don't like to acknowledge the amount of germs I touch on a daily basis on the subway. Best to look at it as I'm building up my immunity for teaching :)
Tonight is out to dinner with Laura! :) Hopefully it will be a good meal, sans bugs.
